NAEYC Teaching Children the Language of Caring for Our Planet: A Multidisciplinary Panel Discussion on Building Bridges to Help Children Discover the Interconnections Between Our Natural Environment and Our Human-Built Environment
Exhibition Hall (Orlando, FL)
Join a preschool director, an early childhood education professor, an environmental educator, and a children’s media professional and TV host to discover and discuss what happens when we invite Earth and all life on our planet into every classroom. Every young child deserves the chance to fall in love with where we live and to understand how we live on this planet together. Building this bridge between the natural and built shows us that outdoor education and nature immersion are as important as climate change education and content learning.
This thoughtfully curated panel addresses some of the challenges arising, such as fostering a connection with nature for young children in all circumstances and narrowing the gaps created by differing opportunities and priorities in our educational systems. Panelists will provide perspectives from the whole of a young child’s circle of influence. The panel will be a cross-generational conversation of what it means to deepen our connection with nature and how we can live and love in a volatile changing climate, exploring the many ways teachers can empower our children for the times ahead and entrust them with the skills they will need.
